Aripiprazole Dosing

For adults who are first beginning schizophrenia treatment with aripiprazole, dosing usually starts at 10 mg to 15 mg once daily. The recommended starting dosage for adults who are being treated for bipolar disorder is 15 mg once daily. Depending on how you respond to the medication, your healthcare provider may increase or decrease your daily dose as needed. The recommended starting aripiprazole dose for treating major depression (when used along with an antidepressant) in adults is 2 mg to 5 mg once daily.

An Introduction to Aripiprazole Dosage

The dose of aripiprazole (Abilify^®) that your healthcare provider recommends will vary depending on a number of factors, including:

The medical condition being treated
Your age
The severity of your condition
Other medical conditions you may have
Other medications you may be currently taking.

As always, do not adjust your aripiprazole dose unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.

Aripiprazole Dosing for Schizophrenia

The recommended adult starting aripiprazole dose for schizophrenia is 10 mg to 15 mg once daily. If necessary to control your schizophrenia symptoms, your healthcare provider may increase your dose up to 30 mg once daily. Your healthcare provider should not increase your aripiprazole dose more frequently than every two weeks, as it takes about two weeks for the medication to build up to a steady level in your body.

For adolescents age 13 to 17 years old, the recommended starting aripiprazole dose for schizophrenia is aripiprazole 2 mg once daily. Within a week or so, your healthcare provider should try to increase your dose to aripiprazole 10 mg once daily. If necessary, your healthcare provider may increase the dose up to a maximum of 30 mg once daily.
