How Does It Work?

Fanapt belongs to a group of medications called atypical (or second-generation) antipsychotic medications. It is not entirely known how Fanapt works for the treatment of schizophrenia. However, it is known that Fanapt blocks or lessens the effects of certain chemicals in the brain. These brain chemicals (such as dopamine and serotonin) may be elevated in people with schizophrenia.

Can Children Use Fanapt?

Fanapt is not approved for use in children. Talk with your child's healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of using Fanapt in children.

Off-Label Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Fanapt for something other than schizophrenia. At this time, there are no universally accepted off-label uses for this drug.
