Side Effects of Fluphenazine
Common side effects of fluphenazine include drowsiness, loss of appetite, and blurred vision. Most people tolerate it well, however. If side effects do occur, they are usually minor and easily treated. However, certain fluphenazine side effects are more serious and should be reported to your healthcare provider, such as seizures, signs of an allergic reaction, and unusual body movements.
An Introduction to Side Effects of FluphenazineAs with any medicine, side effects are possible with fluphenazine (Prolixin®). However, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
(This article covers many, but not all, of the possible side effects with fluphenazine. Your healthcare provider can discuss a more complete list of fluphenazine side effects with you.)
Common Side Effects of FluphenazineFluphenazine has been studied thoroughly in clinical trials. In these studies, the side effects that occur in a group of people taking the drug are documented and then compared to the side effects that occur in another group of people not taking the medicine. As a result, it is possible to see what side effects occur, how often they appear, and how they compare to the group not taking the medicine.
In these studies, some common fluphenazine side effects included:
- Bizarre dreams
- Nausea and loss of appetite
- Increased salivation or sweating
- Dry mouth (see Prolixin and Dry Mouth)
- Blurred vision
- Difficulty passing urine
- Impotence, also known as erectile dysfunction or ED (see Prolixin Sexual Side Effects)
- An increased sex drive.
