Effects of Haldol

Haldol® (haloperidol) is a prescription medicine approved for treating mental disorders and various other conditions. Several studies have been conducted to explore the drug's effects.
 
Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is one of the most confusing and disabling mental illnesses. It is a group of mental disorders that involve abnormal thinking. Although psychotherapy may be helpful for schizophrenia, medication is often essential to schizophrenia treatment. Haldol can help improve the symptoms of schizophrenia.
 
Tourette Syndrome
Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder that results in repetitive, involuntary movements and vocalizations called tics. Haldol is approved to treat tics (including vocal tics) in children and adults with Tourette syndrome.
 
Behavior Problems
Haldol is approved to treat behavior problems in children. In particular, Haldol is approved to treat children who have extremely severe hyperexcitability and who become easily combative and explosive without being provoked. Also, Haldol can be used for a short period of time to treat very severe attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children who are especially physically hyperactive.
