Haldol Sexual Side Effects

While you are taking Haldol, sexual side effects may potentially occur. Among the sexual problems that can occur during treatment with Haldol are changes in sex drive, impotence, and priapism. Let your healthcare provider know if you develop any Haldol sexual side effects. He or she may recommend treatment, or may suggest adjusting your Haldol dosage or trying a different medication.

 

An Overview of Haldol Sexual Side Effects

Haldol® (haloperidol) is known to cause certain sexual side effects. Haldol sexual side effects may include:
 
Haldol and Sex Drive
Haldol is known to cause changes in sex drive (known as libido). In particular, Haldol has been reported to cause an increased sex drive. However, the exact percentage of people who experienced an increased sex drive during previous studies was not reported.
 
Haldol and Impotence
Impotence is another possible side effect of Haldol, as well as many other antipsychotic medications. However, the exact percentage of men who developed impotence during previous studies of Haldol was not reported.
 
Haldol and Priapism
Priapism is another possible side effect of Haldol. Priapism is a painful erection of the penis that does not go away, even after sexual intercourse or masturbation. If left untreated, priapism can lead to permanent damage to the penis. For this reason, it is very important to seek medical attention immediately if you think you are having symptoms of priapism. Even though this may seem embarrassing, it is necessary to avoid permanent damage to the penis. If your healthcare provider is not available, you should seek emergency medical care.
