Haldol® (haloperidol) is a medication approved for the treatment of schizophrenia (and other psychotic disorders), behavior problems, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and tics associated with Tourette syndrome. It is available by prescription only and comes in several different forms, including tablets, an oral solution, and injections.
Haldol tablets are available in six different strengths, including:
- 0.5 mg
- 1 mg
- 2 mg
- 5 mg
- 10 mg
- 20 mg.
The liquid and tablet form of Haldol are usually taken by mouth two or three times a day (depending on the particular condition being treated). Although you can take this medication either with food or on an empty stomach, you should take it with food if you experience an upset stomach. It is important to take Haldol at the same times each day to maintain an even level of medication in your blood.
