Schizophrenia Home > What Is Haldol Used For?
Haldol® (haloperidol) is a prescription "typical antipsychotic" medication. As with other first-generation antipsychotics, this drug has been around for a while, and many people may have heard of it. But what is Haldol used for?
Haldol is used for the treatment of numerous conditions in both adults and children. It is approved to treat psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia), tics associated with Tourette syndrome, severe behavior problems in children, and severe attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children (for short-term use only).
Occasionally, the product is also used for off-label purposes. Haldol may be recommended off-label for the treatment of:
- Migraine headaches
- Mania (associated with bipolar disorder)
- Nausea and vomiting
- Chronic hiccups.
