Most, but not all, forms of Zyprexa (olanzapine) are available as generic drugs. At this time, you can buy generic versions of Zyprexa tablets, Zyprexa Zydis orally disintegrating tablets, and the short-acting Zyprexa injection. These drugs have been given an "AB" rating by the FDA, which means they are considered equivalent to brand-name Zyprexa.

An Overview of Generic Zyprexa

When combined with the antidepressant fluoxetine (Prozac®), Zyprexa is also approved to treat bipolar depression and treatment-resistant depression.


Zyprexa is manufactured by Eli Lilly. However, the patent for this medication has expired, and the drug is now available in generic form.

Availability of Generic Zyprexa

Generic Zyprexa tablets are available in the following strengths:
  • 2.5 mg
  • 5 mg
  • 7.5 mg
  • 10 mg
  • 15 mg
  • 20 mg.
Generic Zyprexa Zydis orally disintegrating tablets are available in the following strengths:
  • 5 mg
  • 10 mg
  • 15 mg
  • 20 mg.
The short-acting Zyprexa injection is also available in generic form. The long-acting injection (Zyprexa Relprevv) is not yet available in generic form.
Generic Zyprexa is made by a variety of different manufacturers, such as Teva Pharmaceuticals USA and Par Pharmaceuticals.
