Navane Alternatives

If the drug is not producing satisfactory results, or if bothersome side effects occur, a healthcare provider may recommend an alternative to Navane. Alternatives to the antipsychotic drug can include therapy and other medications, which can include other typical antipsychotic medications or newer atypical antipsychotic medications.

 

An Overview of Navane Alternatives

Navane® (thiothixene) is a prescription medicine that has been licensed to treat schizophrenia. Navane is part of a group of typical antipsychotics or first-generation antipsychotics.
 
For most people, Navane is effective at treating symptoms of these conditions. Most people also tolerate the medication well. However, as with all medicines, it is possible that side effects will occur during treatment with Navane. Also, in some situations, the medicine may not adequately control a person's symptoms. Fortunately, there are several alternatives to Navane, including:
 
  • Other medications
  • Therapy.

Typical Antipsychotics
These are older, "first-generation" antipsychotic medications. While it is thought that these medications may be more likely to cause serious side effects, studies have shown conflicting results. In addition to Navane, these medications can include:
 
Atypical Antipsychotics
