Quetiapine fumarate (Seroquel®) is a prescription drug licensed for the treatment of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. By blocking or lessening the effects of dopamine and serotonin in the brain, the antipsychotic medication can help treat and prevent symptoms of these conditions. Quetiapine, which is generally taken one to three times a day, comes in tablet form and is available in six different strengths. Potential side effects of the medicine include weight gain, agitation, and drowsiness.
