Risperdal Use in Children

Risperdal is approved to treat irritability associated with autism in children age 5 to 16 years old. Risperdal is also approved to treat schizophrenia in children as young as 13 years old and to treat bipolar disorder in children as young as 10 years old. Be sure to talk with your healthcare provider about the risks and benefits of using Risperdal for children.
 

Off-Label Risperdal Uses

On occasion, your healthcare provider may recommend Risperdal for something other than the conditions discussed above. This is called an "off-label" use. Some examples of off-label Risperdal uses include treating:
 
  • Behavior problems in elderly people with dementia
  • Other behavior problems
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Psychotic depression (depression with psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations or delusions).
