Seroquel XR Dosing for Special Situations
Elderly individuals and people with liver problems should be started with a low
Seroquel XR dosage (50 mg once daily). The dose can be increased daily in increments of 50 mg per day.
People who are switching from regular
Seroquel to Seroquel XR can take the equivalent total daily dose, except just once a day. For instance, if you took Seroquel 200 mg three times daily, the equivalent dose would be Seroquel XR 600 mg once daily.
If you stop taking Seroquel XR and need to start taking it again, it is usually recommended that you start back at a low dose and work your way back up (just as if you had never taken it before).
General Seroquel XR Dosage Information
Some considerations for people taking Seroquel XR include:
- Seroquel XR comes in tablet form. It is usually taken by mouth once a day, typically in the evening.
- While Seroquel XR can be taken on an empty stomach or with a light meal (300 calories or less), it should not be taken with a large, fatty meal. Taking Seroquel XR with too much food can increase the amount of Seroquel XR in your blood, increasing your risk of side effects.
- Seroquel XR tablets are extended release and should not be crushed, split, broken, or chewed. They should be swallowed whole.
- Seroquel XR should be taken at the same time each day to maintain even levels of the drug in your blood.
- For Seroquel XR to work properly, it must be taken as prescribed. Seroquel XR will not work if you stop taking it.
