Seroquel XR Side Effects to Report

There are a number of side effects with Seroquel XR that you should report to your healthcare provider right away. These include, but are not limited to:
  • Signs of diabetes, such as high blood sugar, increased thirst, frequent urination, and/or extreme hunger (see Seroquel and Diabetes)
  • A large or rapid weight gain (see Seroquel XR and Weight Gain)
  • Seizures
  • Suicidal thoughts
  • Signs of low white blood cells, such as frequent or persistent infections 
  • Dizziness or fainting when going from a sitting or lying-down position to standing
  • Feelings of internal restlessness or jitteriness
  • High cholesterol or high triglycerides 
  • Any abnormal muscle movements (these abnormal movements can become permanent if Seroquel XR is not stopped quickly)
  • A painful erection of the penis that does not go away (this can cause permanent damage to the penis)
  • Signs or symptoms of neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS), which can include:


    • A high fever
    • Stiff muscles
    • Confusion
    • An irregular pulse or blood pressure
    • An increased heart rate (tachycardia)
    • Sweating
    • Irregular heart rhythms (arrhythmias) 


  • Signs of an allergic reaction, including an unexplained rash, hives, itching, unexplained swelling, wheezing, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.

Less Common Seroquel XR Side Effects

There are other, less common Seroquel XR side effects that can occur. These side effects occur in less than 5 percent of people taking Seroquel XR. For these side effects, it is difficult to tell whether the side effect is caused by Seroquel XR or other factors.
These less common Seroquel XR side effects include, but are not limited to:
  • Fever
  • Shakiness (tremors)
  • Blurred vision
  • Drooling
  • Swallowing problems.
