Interactions With Ziprasidone Explained

All of the medications mentioned above (except ketoconazole and carbamazepine) increase the risk of a dangerous irregular heart rhythm (arrhythmia) called QT prolongation. Since ziprasidone can also increase the risk of QT prolongation, it should generally not be combined with any of the medications listed above. In some instances, it may be appropriate to use ziprasidone with the above medications, especially if the heart is monitored closely. Since this list does not include all QT prolonging medications, it is very important to tell your healthcare provider about every medication you are taking.
 
Carbamazepine can decrease the level of ziprasidone in your blood (perhaps making it less effective), while ketoconazole can increase the level of ziprasidone in your blood (increasing your risk of ziprasidone side effects). If you are taking carbamazepine or ketoconazole, your healthcare provider may need to adjust your ziprasidone dosage.
