Click on an icon to view.As with any medicine, Zyprexa Relprevv can cause side effects. However, not everyone who uses the drug will experience problems. Most people tolerate it quite well.
If side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are treated easily by you or your healthcare provider. Serious side effects are less common.
Some of the common side effects of this medication include but are not limited to:
- Headache
- Sedation
- Weight gain
- Cough.

Zyprexa Relprevv may react with a number of other medications (see Zyprexa Relprevv Drug Interactions).
Talk with your healthcare provider prior to receiving this medication if you have:
- Liver disease, such as hepatitis, cirrhosis, or liver failure
- Kidney disease, such as kidney failure
- Dementia, including Alzheimer's dementia or any other type of dementia
- Heart rhythm problems (an abnormal heartbeat)
- Low blood pressure (hypotension) or high blood pressure (hypertension)
- Diabetes, high blood glucose (sugar) levels, or a close family member with diabetes
- High cholesterol or high triglycerides
- Heart disease of any kind, including congestive heart failure
- Had a heart attack or stroke
- Been told you have a low white blood cell count
- Seizures or a seizure disorder
- Ever had thoughts of suicide or harming yourself
- Had a condition known as neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS)
- A condition known as tardive dyskinesia (abnormal, uncontrollable body movements)
- A tendency to be dehydrated, will be exposed to high temperatures, or exercise a lot
- Narrow-angle glaucoma
- An enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy or prostatic hyperplasia)
- A history of bowel obstruction or blockage
- Difficulty swallowing
- Ever had breast cancer
- Any allergies, including to foods, dyes, or preservatives.
Also, let your healthcare provider know if you:
- Are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant (see Zyprexa Relprevv and Pregnancy)
- Are breastfeeding (see Zyprexa Relprevv and Breastfeeding).
Make sure to tell your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including prescription and nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
