The recommended starting dose of Zyprexa® (olanzapine) for schizophrenia is Zyprexa 5 mg to 10 mg once daily. For the treatment of bipolar disorder, the recommended starting dose is 10 mg to 15 mg once daily. With either condition, the maximum Zyprexa dosage is 20 mg a day. A few of the factors that can affect the Zyprexa dose your healthcare provider prescribes include your age, the severity of your condition, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you may be currently taking.

You may take your Zyprexa dosage with or without food. For Zyprexa to work properly, it must be taken as your healthcare provider has prescribed. Make sure to talk with your healthcare provider, nurse, or pharmacist if you are unsure about anything related to your dosage or Zyprexa dosing in general.
