A healthcare provider may prescribe
Zyprexa® (
olanzapine) 5 mg tablets for treating conditions such as
bipolar disorder or
schizophrenia. However, your specific dosage of this medication will depend on a number of factors, such as your age, the severity of your condition, other medical conditions you may have, and other medications you are currently taking.
For example, the recommended starting Zyprexa dose for treating schizophrenia is one 5 mg or 10 mg
Zyprexa tablet once daily. If you start at less than 10 mg daily, your healthcare provider may increase the dose to 10 mg within the first few days.
Zyprexa 5 mg is available in the form of regular tablets and orally disintegrating tablets (sold under the name
Zyprexa Zydis®).
