Zyprexa Dosage

Zyprexa Doses for Bipolar Mania or Mixed Episodes

The recommended starting oral Zyprexa dosage for treating manic or mixed episodes in bipolar disorder in adults is Zyprexa 10 mg to 15 mg once daily. If bipolar disorder symptoms continue after several weeks, your healthcare provider may increase this amount.

If Zyprexa is used in combination with lithium (Eskalith®, Lithobid®) or valproate products (Depakene®, Depakote®, Depakote ER®), the recommended starting dose is generally Zyprexa 10 mg once daily.

The recommended starting oral Zyprexa dose for treating manic or mixed episodes in adolescents (age 13 to 17) is 2.5 to 5 mg once daily, with a target dose of 10 mg per day (although higher doses may sometimes be necessary).

Once your bipolar symptoms are improved, your healthcare provider may choose to stop Zyprexa or keep you on a dose ranging from 5 mg to 20 mg per day. The maximum recommended Zyprexa dosage is 20 mg per day.

For children and adolescents with bipolar depression, the starting dosage is usually Zyprexa 2.5 mg in combination with 20 mg of fluoxetine, once daily.
