Zyprexa Risks

Although many people do not experience any problems while taking Zyprexa® (olanzapine), this medication is not free of risks. For example, some of the risks associated with Zyprexa include side effects such as:
  • Drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Weight gain
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness.
If any problems do occur, they tend to be minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider. However, there are some potentially dangerous problems that require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider if you experience serious problems such as rapid weight gain, a high fever, or difficulty breathing.
Other warnings and precautions apply to women who are pregnant or breastfeeding, as well as people who have certain allergies (including allergies to foods, dyes, or preservatives). Also, you may not be able to take Zyprexa if you have certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, glaucoma, or epilepsy.
